Jurisdictional inspections

Helping FM Boiler Re partner companies stay ahead of risk

In the world of jurisdictional inspectors for boilers and pressure vessels, the difference between routine and risk can come down to a single inspection. At  FM Boiler Re, our jurisdictional consultants don’t just check boxes—they see what others don’t.

During a past inspection, swift action from our inspector and FM Boiler Re helped protect our partner company, the insured’s property and overall peace of mind. Jurisdictional consultants focus on observing conditions of boilers and pressure vessels during routine jurisdictional inspections; however, they will also report property-related hazards and violations they encounter while on-site. In this scenario, an FM inspector discovered significant issues with a facility’s ammonia refrigeration system, including multiple adverse conditions and violations, in addition to serious concerns with the facility’s structural integrity. Recognizing the increased equipment breakdown hazard and urgency of the situation, the jurisdictional consultant alerted FM Boiler Re who quickly communicated our findings to the partner company who had been unaware of the dangerous conditions prior to the routine inspection.

This story underscores the critical importance of loss prevention in jurisdictional inspections. By identifying and addressing risks early, FM inspectors play a vital role in safeguarding properties and protecting our partner companies’ interests.

The importance of inspections

Jurisdictional boiler inspections are crucial for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of boiler systems. These inspections help identify potential hazards, such as failing components or safety device deficiencies, which could lead to dangerous conditions or operational disruptions. By adhering to regulatory standards and conducting regular inspections, facility owners can prevent costly repairs and reduce downtime.

FM Boiler Re leverages FM’s national team of highly trained inspectors to conduct inspections for our partner company insureds. In 2024 alone, more than 74,000 objects were inspected, with an impressive 97% on-time completion rate.

FM’s jurisdictional consultants are distinguished by their rigorous training, commitment to loss prevention and thoroughness and accountability. Their proactive, prevention-first approach ensures that facilities are not only compliant with jurisdictional requirements but also optimally protected from potential property losses.
