Leadership Updates 360x360

You’ll find long tenures, upward trajectories and inspiring career stories at every level throughout the company. Many of our executive leaders began their journeys in technical or operational roles, steadily advancing as they deepened their expertise and passion for FM’s collaborative and consultative approach to commercial property insurance.

In 2024, FM appointed several longstanding leaders to key executive roles. Lyndon Broad, Omar Hameed and Randy Hodge exemplify FM’s purpose of protecting today for a better tomorrow, each bringing decades of experience and a deep commitment to strengthening FM’s position in the market for the tangible benefit of its mutual owners. Individually and collectively, they are helping to shape FM’s bold vision for the future while building on its storied past.

Solidifying FM’s future

Randy Hodge, chief operating officer

For Randy Hodge, leadership is all about foresight. His career with FM spans more than three decades, beginning as a field engineer and advancing through client service, underwriting and executive leadership. Along the way, he developed a deep understanding of how operational strategy and risk management must evolve to address the changing risk landscape.

Hodge’s experience in underwriting leadership has played a crucial role in FM’s expansion. As executive vice president, he helped drive initiatives like FM Renewable Energy and the acquisition of an E&S carrier, reinforcing FM’s ability to navigate complex and emerging risks. His contributions have been clearly visible in the company’s ability to provide long-term value to policyholders.

Hodge’s leadership also extends to FM’s financial strategy. Having helped FM build its strong capital position, he is passionate about strategically reinvesting policyholder surplus to fuel innovations in research, engineering and claims response. He sees FM’s success not only as a reflection of its present strength but also as an investment in future resilience.

As chief operating officer, Hodge now oversees the development and execution of FM’s strategic plan at the critical intersection of underwriting, engineering and claims operations. His approach emphasizes data-driven decision-making, advanced risk analytics and science-based research to help clients with the hazards they face today and in the future.

“At a time of new and complex risks, we must stay ahead,” Hodge said. “Our investments in science and data enable us to anticipate challenges before they become losses.”

Engineering a career of impact

Lyndon Broad, executive vice president of staff insurance operations

Lyndon Broad celebrates 30 years with FM in 2025. He started as a resident field engineer in Australia, covering a vast territory encompassing mines, refineries, power stations and major industrial sites. Early on, he saw firsthand how engineering expertise translates into risk prevention and business resilience.

One pivotal moment came when he responded to a mine loss in Queensland. Working alongside a loss adjuster, Broad was invited to meet with the CFO—a rare opportunity that allowed him to witness the direct connection between risk engineering, insurance and financial decision-making. That moment sparked an interest in claims, and ultimately, a position in claims management. From there, his reach expanded globally.

Broad took on claims leadership roles across Southeast Asia, the UK and Australia, including handling a string of significant disaster-related losses from earthquakes, cyclones and hailstorms. Each challenge reinforced his belief in FM’s commitment to its policyholders and its science-backed approach to loss prevention.

Transitioning into underwriting and operations management in Australia and Boston, Broad ended up as chief underwriting officer, playing a pivotal role in aligning FM’s insurance operations with its global strategy. His extensive field experience gave him a deep appreciation for how each component—engineering, underwriting and claims—must work in sync to create a resilient organization.

As EVP of staff insurance operations, Broad is responsible for aligning a wide scope of disciplines—from identifying new prospects to delivering claims payments. He is focused on aligning FM’s strategy with policyholder needs and business imperatives. Efficiency, accountability and focus drive his approach, with every decision tying back to long-term objectives.

“We operate with a clear strategic plan that prioritizes our policyholders,” Broad said. “That alignment is what keeps us strong as a mutual company.”

Redefining leadership in legal functions

Omar Hameed, senior vice president and chief legal officer

Omar Hameed’s early experiences with the insurance industry were not always how he had imagined. As a corporate lawyer in London, he found himself questioning some industry practices. Seeing companies and their legal teams apparently overlooking the need to truly support policyholders, he started searching for a company that aligned with his own values. In 2007, that search led him to FM.

From his first days in the UK office, Hameed recognized that FM operates differently. He was impressed with how the company values trust, reliability and putting policyholders first. Over time, he has built a career that bridges legal expertise with operational strategy, overseeing FM’s growing legal team across multiple continents.

In previous roles at FM, Hameed worked closely with executives, operations teams and engineers to embed business strategy directly into FM’s legal functions. He has been instrumental in positioning FM’s legal department not as a reactive function but as a proactive partner in building business resilience. Under his leadership, FM’s legal team has grown significantly, expanding into Mexico, Brazil, Korea, Australia, Singapore,
India and Luxembourg.

As chief legal officer, Hameed is committed to strengthening the legal function’s alignment with FM’s long-term business strategy. He believes that legal teams should be active participants in decision-making, supporting broader corporate goals by using their problem-solving and critical reasoning skills.

“We want to help shape decisions that reflect FM’s mutual structure,” he said. “When legal works hand in hand with the business, we create resilience at every level.”

Partnering to protect your purpose FM’s leadership is united by a shared commitment to partnership—starting from within the company and emanating to clients, brokers and communities. Together, they drive strategies that strengthen resilience and support businesses in managing risk with confidence. Their collaboration fuels a future where organizations around the world can stand stronger, go further and turn uncertainty into opportunity.
