Advance your career with FM’s broker education curriculum
Brokers of all seniority levels can equip themselves to have insight-led conversations with clients about risk management with FM’s unique educational and training resources

Successful brokers act as trusted advisors to their clients. But meeting client needs in this way requires specialist knowledge in areas including matching the right coverage to their risks, navigating policy complexity, advocating for them during claims, helping them to understand market trends, and enabling their long-term business success.
At FM, we have been using our engineering expertise and scientific research to help commercial property insurance brokers develop their expertise and deepen client relationships for nearly 200 years. In that time, many of FM’s broker partners have asked us to create and deliver training sessions to upskill their staff and educate executives on the latest industry techniques and trends.
Brokers who have completed these sessions enjoy improved profiles within their organisations and public recognition of their achievements via badges on LinkedIn. In some cases, they also earned credits toward their Continuing Personal Development (CPD) goals.
In time, these trainings have grown into FM’s Broker Education Curriculum. This article introduces the contents of this curriculum and outlines how you can take full advantage of them - whether you’re a manager looking to upskill your team or an individual looking to further your career development.
Deepen your knowledge on how to serve client needs
Like everything we at FM do, the Broker Education Curriculum combines our engineering-led approach with the latest research from our global science and technology research centers. FM’s goal is to support you in developing and maintaining trusted advisor status with your clients.
The sessions in the current iteration of the curriculum include:
- Property Insurance Essentials helps brokers who are relatively new to commercial property insurance to explore the fundamentals of how to secure the best programs for their clients.
- Broker Engineering Forum helps new and mid-level client-facing brokers to understand the value of proactive risk mitigation and loss prevention strategies, as well as how to use them to differentiate your offering
- Learning and Growing Together educates brokers, client executives, placement staff, broker engineers, and senior management on how FM’s distinctive business model helps brokers to establish winning partnerships.
- Positively Impacting the Cost of Risk helps brokers with 2–15 years’ experience with to create value for their clients through leveraging the right products and services, optimising risk performance factors, and minimising the cost of risk.
- Policy Workshops help brokers of all experience levels to expand their policy knowledge by exploring real-world scenarios and modeling how FM’s policies respond to get clients’ businesses back up and running as quickly as possible.
Looking beyond the curriculum itself, Advanced Property Insurance provides customised content for brokers with at least five years’ experience in specialty fields. Sessions can cover cyber risk, engineering-led underwriting, supply chain and business impact analysis, high-hazard sectors, and more.
On-demand digital training is also available on specific risk performance factors, including modules on field engineering visits, policy wording overviews, business risk consulting, engineering and research, FM client services processes, and our key market differentiators.
