FM helps its clients at every step, using practical applications of cutting-edge climate science to ensure its clients are always keeping pace with change, whatever form it takes

The breadth of our expertise—from climate research to rigorous testing of building materials—allows us to provide clients with end-to-end loss prevention advice as their operations and the risks they face evolve.

FM’s research draws on scientific partnerships and its own expertise to provide actionable risk modeling for natural hazards. To support the broader industry in strategic planning towards more resilient operations, FM makes several key resources publicly available:

  • FM Data Sheets: A comprehensive library of engineering guidelines that help reduce the risk of property loss due to extreme weather and other factors. These standards are based on nearly 200 years of research and are freely accessible to support global resilience efforts.
  • Natural Hazards Toolkit: Interactive natural hazard maps and other guidance to help organizations prepare for and respond to earthquakes, floods, windstorms, and other extreme weather events.
  • FM Resilience Index: A benchmarking tool that ranks 130 countries and territories by their resilience to disruptive events to help businesses make informed decisions about where to invest and operate.

While these tools are available to benefit the industry at large, FM clients have access to advanced, site-specific resources to protect their operations:

  • The Climate Resilience Tracker helps clients prioritize risk mitigation strategies and prepare for both current and future climate risks. The proprietary tool generates tailored resilience recommendations based on over 700 variables per site, including elevation, construction type, and local hazard exposure.
  • FM’s engineers conduct tens of thousands of client site visits every year around the world. We advise clients throughout the lifecycle of a facility, from location selection to emergency response planning. In 2024, our engineers helped our clients make 46,245 completed risk improvements, resulting in a US$1.05T reduction in loss expectancy.
  • FM Approved products provide clients with independent reassurance of the safety and resilience of their equipment and materials—from insulation panels and leak detectors to sprinkler systems and solar panels.

Our partnership approach allows buyers to reinvest savings in risk mitigation, creating a virtuous circle of resilience, with our members benefitting from nearly US$1.5B in membership and resilience credits in 2024 alone.

And with a presence in more than 60,000 locations in over 145 countries, we offer guidance and insight that are as global as our clients’ value chains.
