FM Expands Alternative Risk Transfer Solutions
LONDON, UK, Oct. 14, 2026 – Commercial property insurer FM today announced it is introducing an expanded suite of alternative risk transfer solutions to its clients.
The products—including parametric insurance, structured risk solutions and captive cells—are designed to provide FM clients with more flexibility and control over their risk management strategies. The products complement traditional property insurance and help clients manage the overall cost of insurance, constrained market capacity and unexpected financial losses.
“Our clients have a wide range of risk management needs and goals,” said Laurel Rudnick, chief underwriting officer at FM. “We’re building solutions that give them more flexibility, greater financial certainty and new ways to strengthen resilience over the long term.”
FM’s alternative risk transfer solutions are:
- Parametric insurance, which provides rapid payment in circumstances where pre-agreed triggers are exceeded, complementing traditional cover and enabling clients to address immediate financial impacts of an event
- Structured risk solutions, which allow organisations to participate in loss outcomes in exchange for the potential return of premium, helping create closer alignment between insurance spending and actual loss performance.
- Captive cell solutions, which offer many of the benefits of a captive insurance programme while helping reduce the cost, complexity and administrative burden associated with establishing a standalone captive.
Together, these solutions can help organisations access additional capacity, manage retained risk and recover more quickly following qualifying events.
FM’s alternative risk transfer solutions are designed to work alongside traditional property insurance rather than replace it. By combining innovative risk financing options with FM’s scientific research, engineering expertise and focus on property loss prevention, clients can explore more holistic strategies for protecting their operations and supporting business continuity.
